Alan writes picture books... and books about science, history, and imagination.

He's the author of over twenty books. Two current children’s picture books include Willy the Texas Longhorn, a Rudolph-type Christmas story about a longhorn who helps Santa deliver his gifts in Texas (Pelican.) On Sunday the Wind Came is about a kid who finds fun and wonder in changing weather. This book is bilingual in English and Spanish (Babl Books.)

A Texas history book, Texas Ingenuity: Lone Star Inventors, Inventions, and Innovators, from History Press is full of quirky and informative stories about how things invented in Texas or people from Texas have changed the world.

Alan is also co-author of the family inspirational comedy movie Angels Love Donuts (with Leon McWhorter.) Other books include local histories Images of America: Oak Cliff (a pictorial history of the Oak Cliff section of Dallas) and Legendary Locals of Oak Cliff both from Arcadia Press. Alan lives in Dallas and teaches at Southern Methodist University.
