Arranged according to seasons, this cookbook explores life in the Polish countryside throughout the year. It combines traditional recipes with the season in which they were cooked. There is information on typical utensils used in cooking and producing food in Poland at the turn of the century. It gives meaning to the wafer shared at the Christmas Eve Vigil, the making of butter lambs at Easter, as well as the food available at celebrations of country feasts and festivals. Illustrations and photos add more detail and answer many of the common questions asked by descendants of Polish immigrants about the kitchens of their ancestors.
